Somebody probably asked an AI about your business this week. Maybe a buyer asked for a shortlist. Maybe a customer asked what you charge. You weren’t in the room, and neither was your website. The AI answered anyway.
Where did that answer come from? Scraps. Old pages, cached copy, a directory listing from 2023, someone else’s blog. If you’ve changed your prices, your products or your name since then, the answer may be wrong. Politely, confidently wrong.
We had this problem ourselves. We renamed our products this spring. We changed prices. We rebuilt the whole site. Any AI working from old material would describe a business that no longer exists.
So this week we built a fix: a facts page. reignites.co.uk/ai states the facts in plain English: who we are, what we sell, what it costs, what we don’t do. One line on that page does the heavy lifting: if an AI tells you something about us that this page contradicts, this page wins.
Honest caveat, because we always give you one. AI systems mostly learn about you the ordinary way: by reading your normal web pages. That’s why the facts page matters, and why the rest of your pages have to be clean and current too. Every crawler reads HTML. Do the basics first.
Here’s what the basics look like, for any small business:
- Pick one page that states the facts: legal name, what you sell, prices, contact. Keep it current.
- Kill stale copy everywhere else. An old price on a forgotten page is a lie waiting to be quoted.
- Check your page titles and descriptions. They’re often the first thing a crawler reads, and the last thing anyone updates.
- Give search engines a sitemap that updates itself. Hand-maintained ones rot. Ours did.
- Then ask an AI assistant about your business and read the answer. Fix whatever it gets wrong at the source.
None of this is AI consultancy. We don’t sell that, and you don’t need it. This is housekeeping: the same discipline as keeping your opening hours right on Google. The tools asking the questions have changed. The answer still has to come from you.
